RED BANK - The Municipal Council of Red Bank is considering a ban on smoking at parks.

The council has already enacted a smoking ban at one park, Count Basie, in order to protect the new turf baseball, soccer and football fields. If the ban is approved, popular Marine and Riverside Garden parks would be affected.

Officials says the ban isn't just about air quality, but also about litter.

The borough has already banned smoking at restaurants and bars. The council is expected to discuss the possible ban at its next meeting on Feb. 27.
