SANDY HOOK - (AP) - An environmental group says volunteerscleaned up nearly half a million pieces of trash from New Jersey'sbeaches last year, an all-time record.

A report being released Tuesday by Clean Ocean Action findsplastic items accounted for nearly three-quarters of the trashremoved from the beaches.

But a staggering array of flotsam and jetsam made its way ontothe sands. Items found included a small bag of heroin, a 10-gallongas tank, a plastic cow, a beer keg, a duck caller, and yes, even akitchen sink.

Clean Ocean Action has been organizing spring and fall beachcleanups for 25 years. More than 8,300 people participated lastyear.
