READINGTON - Parents at a Hunterdon County middle school attended a meeting tonight over a recent change to the dress code for an upcoming dance.
Readington Middle School principal Sharon Moffat says strapless dresses are banned from this year's eighth-grade dinner dance because she considers them too distracting for boys.
Many girls say they've already bought their dresses and cannot return them. One mother told News 12 New Jersey that she believes the rule is arbitrary, sexist and a violation of her daughter's 14th Amendment rights.
The board says it plans to review its dress code policy.
