NEW BRUNSWICK - A New Jersey judge handed down a sentence of 30 days in jail followed by probation for Dharun Ravi in the Rutgers bias intimidation case.

Ravi used a webcam to spy on his former roommate Tyler Clementi's intimate encounter with another man. Clementi committed suicide soon after the incident.

Before the sentencing, the judge heard from Clementi's parents and brother as well as Ravi's parents.

The judge said he would recommend against deportation.

Ravi will report to the Adult Middlesex Correctional Facility at 9 a.m. on May 31.

A jury convicted the 20-year-old Plainsboro native of all 15 criminal counts in March.
