CLARK - Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Steve Lonegan's campaign has received high-profile support from Rand Paul, one of the most conservative members of Congress.

The Kentucky senator and tea party favorite joined Lonegan on the campaign trail in Clark.

Paul said the former Bogota mayor will fight for jobs and a better economy, but acknowledged it's an uphill battle for a Republican to win statewide in New Jersey.

"Steve Lonegon can win, and he can only win in a blue state like this if you go out and you turn every friend out, and then make some new friends and turn them out, also," Paul says.

Lonegan faces Newark Mayor Cory Booker in a special election to be held on Oct.16.
