Racial slur painted on car in Old Bridge; owner Marcella Seachrist believes she was targeted
OLD BRIDGE - The Middlesex County prosecutor is investigating an act of vandalism in Old Bridge as a possible hate crime.
The owner of a 1996 Jeep parked at Glenwood Apartments on Appletree Lane says she awoke to find all four of her tires slashed and graffiti covering the doors and windows.
On the passenger side, a racial slur was spray-painted in large yellow letters.

Marcella Seachrist, 62, says her vehicle was the only one vandalized and wonders if she was targeted because she has two biracial grandchildren living with her. She's lived in the complex since September and says she hasn't had any problems.
"When there's a racial slur on the side of the truck, and of course, my grandson is half-black, that's pointing a finger at my grandson," Seachrist says. "And I hope they get to the bottom of this."
The flat tires made it impossible for Seachrist to move the Jeep, but the vandalism itself may convince her to move the family. "I don't think it's going to chase me away," she says. "If I repair it and it happens again, then I'll have to think. I'll have to think about it."
Seachrist believes the vandalism occurred sometime between midnight and 4 a.m. Old Bridge police are assisting in the investigation.
