EDISON - Current Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney and challenger Kathe Donovan are accusing each other of wasteful spending and ethical violations in the race to be county executive.
Kane in Your Corner put both candidates to the truth test. There have been a series of television commercials from both sides attacking one another, which prompted the test.
One of Donovan's ads claims that as clerk, she saved every Bergen County family $300. Kane in Your Corner found that claim to be false. Donovan did cut spending last year, but over her tenure spending nearly doubled.
One of McNerney's ads claims that he cut county government, which Kane in Your Corner found is also not true. McNerney did cut the number of county workers, but did not cut spending.
Kane in Your Corner will continue to monitor political campaigns and put them to the truth test leading up to Election Day.
