ELMWOOD PARK - The raccoon that attacked a 6-year-old Elmwood Park boy on his way to school Wednesday has tested positive for rabies, according to the Bergen County Health Department.

Police say that the raccoon jumped on Aryan Gavali while he walked to school with his mother. Danny Walls, who witnessed the incident, ran over to the commotion and pulled the animal off the boy. Walls then beat the animal to death with a stick.

Gavali was taken to the hospital and treated for lacerations to his face, including a deep cut under his right eye. He was also given antibiotics.

Walls visited the family on Thursday. Gavali is now home from the hospital.
