PSE&G worker rescued after manhole fall

WEST ORANGE - Crews rescued a PSE&G subcontractor after he fell 15 feet onto the concrete floor of a manhole Monday afternoon in West Orange.

Deputy Chief John Coen, of the West Orange Fire Department, told News 12 that the man was alert and conscious, but unable to move. The man had slipped and fallen off a ladder while working in the hole.

Using a crane, rescue crews were able to extract the man from the utility vault opening.

He was taken to University Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet known. 

The incident occurred at the Essex Green Shopping Center on Prospect Avenue.
