PARAMUS - Dozens of protesters rallied in front of a Bergen County pet store Saturday to make sure the store's owner never runs the business again.

Protesters with Pet Store Watch Dogs stood in front of Just Pups, located in Paramus, to call for the store to be closed permanently and to educate people about animal cruelty.

Officials shut down the pet store after the owner, Vincent LoSacco, was accused of mistreating the animals. Police found 67 puppies crammed in cages in a van in the back of the store in deplorable conditions Monday.

LoSacco was charged with animal cruelty and 400 health violations. He has denied the allegations and says he needs to open the store because he is losing money.

The protesters said some puppies are currently inside the store and they are concerned about whether they are being cared for since the store is currently closed. Police tell News 12 the store's employees are the only ones responsible for caring for the dogs.

News 12 reached out to LoSacco, but he was unavailable for comment.
