NEWARK - Authorities say two men were killed and another man wounded in two separate shootings in Newark.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says the first shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday on Harding Terrace.

City police responding to reports of shots fired found 21-year-old Kendal Spear and another man had been wounded. Spear later died at a hospital, while the other, identified only as a 21-year-old city resident, was being treated for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

The second shooting occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on South 19th Street. Officers found 28-year-old Shamone Gugliemini of Newark outside a home, and he was pronounced dead there a short time later.

Authorities say there is no link between the shootings, but motives have not been determined.
