Prosecutor's office releases 911 tapes from jewelry store shooting

BRIDGEWATER - The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office has released 911 tapes, bringing more information to light about the fatal shooting at Bridgewater's Roy T. Jewelers last week.

Officials say the 911 calls were placed just after 5 p.m. on Feb. 7. They say the tapes reveal confused and frightened shoppers who were unaware that the suspect had also killed himself inside the store.

According to authorities, they arrived at the scene shortly after the first 911 call to find both the store owner, Roy DeVoe, and the shooting suspect, 19-year-old Michael Koury, dead.

Police say the relationship between DeVoe and Koury remains unclear and that the investigation is ongoing.
