WOODBRIDGE - News 12 New Jersey has learned that police were looking for the man involved in the Woodbridge Center Mall shooting since September 2011. Investigators say Andres Garcia, 44, had violated his parole for an unrelated robbery conviction. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says the officer involved in the shooting at the Woodbridge Center Mall is officer Edward Barrett, 32. Investigators say Barrett shot Garcia after Garcia shoplifted and held a knife to a 62-year-old woman's neck.Officials say Barrett repeatedly ordered Garcia to drop the knife. When he didn't, the officer fired a single shot that hit Garcia in the head, killing him.

Witnesses say it was chaos inside the mall last night as shoppers ran for the exits after hearing a gunshot.

The Woodbridge Center Mall reopened Friday morning following the incident and people continued to shop as usual throughout the day and evening. Police: Shoplifter shot at Woodbridge mall after grabbing hostage
