Prosecutor: 1 dead, 1 wounded in Newark shootings

NEWARK - Authorities say one man was killed and another wounded when shots were fired on a Newark street overnight.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says the shootings occurred just before midnight in the area of Central Avenue and South 10th Street.

Police responding to reports of shots fired found 29-year-old Erving Munford, of Newark, and a 27-year-old man, whose name was not released. Both had been shot multiple times.

Munford was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later, while the other man was hospitalized in stable condition. The prosecutor's office would not release his name due to "safety concerns."
