Preparations are being made across New Jersey for hurricane Irene

EDISON - Preparations are being made across New Jersey for the storm, including spots away from the shore.

The Coast Guard is moving cutters and small boats from Bayonne to safer waters in the Hudson River. Bayonne officials are urging residents in flood prone areas to evacuation to higher ground.

Palisades Medical Center had already begun the process of moving 80 in-patients to neighboring hospitals as a precautionary measure.

Officials in Trenton are monitoring Hurricane Irene's path. They do not expect the Delaware River to flood, but they do say residents need to be prepared.

The Mayors office says the city's reverse 911 system will notify residents in the event of evacuations. Emergency crews will also patrol Trenton making announcements via loudspeaker.

Mercer County declared its own limited state of emergency in advance of the storm. Emergency Shelters are being set up by the American Red Cross at the Sun Bank Arena.
