Power restored to families, businesses in Carteret

CARTERET - Power was restored tonight to families and businesses in Carteret after half the town was sent into a blackout following the morning's ice storm.

News 12 New Jersey spoke with some of the customers who were struggling to get by without power.

One family described how they couldn't cook or pick up milk because Shop Rite's electricity was also out. Area store owners like Bill Singh said they could have lost a significant amount of money in products if the power wasn't restored. PSE&G crews spent the day fixing two transformers at a substation. They say it was damaged by a mixture of ice and road salt that had seeped into the power lines.
