LINDEN - A power failure at a Union County crude oil refinery sends flames shooting into the air.

A plant worker tells News 12 New Jersey that due to the power outage, crews are being forced to conduct controlled burns of the crude oil product to release pressure as part of a safety measure.

The company says the plant processes mainly light, low-sulfur crude oil. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel.

The Linden Fire Department has been standing by at the plant in the event that a problem occurs.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
