NEWARK - Planned Parenthood is expected to be a huge topic in Washington next month.

New Jersey Congressman Donald Payne Jr. spoke Friday afternoon in Newark about the importance of funding.

The conference comes on the heels of the House vote to override President Obama's veto to defund Planned Parenthood.

Congressman Payne stressed the importance of the organization in Newark, which can provide mammograms and a range of health services for women at an affordable cost.

"This is where a lot of women in this area come for their health care, and it’s the only place they can come to get quality health care,” says Congressman Payne. “So it’s vital that Planned Parenthood remain a viable institution in this city and we plan to maintain it."

Payne anticipates the veto will be sustained come Feb. 2.
