Port Authority curbs free toll perks

FORT LEE - (AP) - No more free tolls for Port Authority ofNew York and New Jersey board members and retirees.

All nonunion employees hired after the Sept. 11 attacks willalso have to pay tolls at the Holland and Lincoln tunnels and theOuterbridge Crossing, Bayonne, Goethals and George Washingtonbridges.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the decision is expected tosave about $1.5 million a year.

The agency says it will end the perk for all employees by 2014. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has criticized free tolls at atime when government is asked to do more with less.
