NEWARK - Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII will be elevated to sainthood on Sunday.
Millions of faithful are traveling to Rome for the double canonization, including many New Jersey Catholics.
The popes are considered two of the most pivotal and popular, which may account for why the canonization is expected to draw no less than 3 million worshippers.
Worshippers call it a pilgrimage, not a vacation, and their schedule will be rigorous. For one New Jersey Catholic, a bus will be picking up his group at 1 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ceremony.
"I don't think the Vatican has seen anything like this ever before,” says Tim Kennedy, of Perth Amboy. “Millions of people from all over the globe will be there."
