MAHWAH - A farm in Mahwah is using horses to help pediatric patients.
A handful of the pediatric out-patients were invited to the small farm to give them and their families a chance to forget about their chronic illnesses.
Pony Power Therapies teamed up with Hackensack University Medical Center to help the families battling lifelong and life-changing illness.
Some of the kids in the weeklong program have neurological disorders, and others just finished cancer treatments.
The horses act as four-legged therapists for the patients and their siblings.
The kids also learn about bee keeping, do arts and crafts and play with other farm animals.
While the families are asked to pay for some of the sessions if they can, they are subsidized by funds from the 2015 Susan Zabransky Hughes Memorial Walk.
Pony Power works with special needs and at-risk kids yearlong.
