TEANECK - Police in Teaneck and Lodi are warning residents of men who have robbed several homes while posing as utility workers.

One of these robberies happened last week along Elm Avenue in Teaneck.

Police say the man told an elderly homeowner that he was from the water company. The homeowner let the man into her basement, and he was able to make off with a safe when she wasn’t looking.

Police in Lodi are also looking for a man wanted for two similar robberies. In one case, the man stole jewelry from an elderly woman.

Police say you should never open the door for anyone before calling the utility company directly to verify the person's credentials.
