Police: Teens assaulted concertgoers exiting Prudential Center

NEWARK - Newark police are searching for a group of teenagers who they say are responsible for assaulting concertgoers outside the Prudential Center Saturday night.

Newark Police Director Samuel Demaio says violent beatings occurred after the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert while nearly 20,000 people were exiting the Prudential Center.

Police say the attackers were comprised of 10 to 15 teenagers who assaulted and robbed three separate groups of victims. One victim sustained a broken eye socket.

The City of Newark released a statement that calls the assaults "an isolated and unfortunate incident."

Police say there were 23 officers in the surrounding area outside the Prudential Center after the concert.
