Police: Teen killed trying to beat train across railroad crossing

Police say a 19-year-old Rutgers freshman was killed when she drove around the lowered railroad gates on Monmouth Avenue Saturday evening.Investigators say the victim, Lily

SPRING LAKE - Police say a 19-year-old Rutgers freshman was killed when she drove around the lowered railroad gates on Monmouth Avenue Saturday evening.

Investigators say the victim, Lily Seegobin, was killed instantly when the Long Branch-bound New Jersey Transit train struck her car. She was the only person in the vehicle.

Residents near the railroad crossing say they have seen many drivers try and drive around the gates when they are down.

No funeral arrangements have been announced for Seegobin.
