Police: Teen charged in synagogue firebombings

HACKENSACK - Bergen County prosecutors announced today that a Lodi teen has been arrested and charged with firebombing a synagogue in Rutherford and a temple in Paramus.

Anthony Graziano, 19, faces nine counts of attempted murder stemming from the Jan. 11 attack on Congregation Beth El in Rutherford. The synagogue also serves as a residence for the rabbi of the congregation. Graziano is accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail through the window of the residence.

Prosecutors say they found Graziano after receiving tips from people who recognized him in surveillance photos and video of him buying the items used to make the bombs.

Officials say Graziano graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School in 2010. Prosecutors describe him as an unemployed loner.

Prosecutors say he chose the temples based on how close they were to his home, since he rode his bike to the locations. Police say the suspect's motive remains unclear.

Prosecutor John Molinelli says investigators believe Graziano knew there were people inside when he threw the Molotov cocktail.Bergen authorities step up patrols in wake of attacksAuthorities probe synagogue firebombing
