GARFIELD - Police in Garfield are investigating to see if the so-called Countdown Bandit is responsible for a bank robbery in town Thursday morning.

The latest robbery was Thursday morning at the M&T Bank on Outwater Lane in Garfield. The thief was able to get away with $11,000. Investigators believe the Countdown Bandit is responsible for at least seven other bank robberies in Bergen and Passaic counties since July 2015.

The suspect is known as the Countdown Bandit because in all the robberies he approaches a teller, demands money and then starts counting from 15 or 10 down to one before taking off with the money.

His image has been captured on several surveillance cameras. He is described as a black or Hispanic man, around 5 feet 9 inches tall. He is believed to be in his mid-30s and he has an athletic build.

Anyone who may have any information about the robberies or recognizes the suspect should contact the police.
