FAIRFIELD - A north New Jersey man says two speeding cars ran him off the road using a sophisticated technique on May 3.

Jimmy Pinetti was driving home along Route 80 East in Fairfield when he says a car sped up behind him, tailgated, and then passed. A minute later, another car began tailgating him while the first car nudged him off the road.

Authorities identified the tactic as a 'pit maneuver' usually performed by skilled drivers.

State police say the speeding cars also caused another accident moments later.

Troopers notified law enforcement across the region to look for the two vehicles. They are described as low-to-the-ground sports cars, one dark and the other light in color.

Pinetti was not injured.
