(AP) - Police shot and killed two pit bullsthat were running loose after one dog attacked a Jack Russellterrier near an elementary school in Highland

HIGHLAND PARK - (AP) - Police shot and killed two pit bullsthat were running loose after one dog attacked a Jack Russellterrier near an elementary school in Highland Park.

Mayor Stephen Nolan told The Home News Tribune of East Brunswick officers opened fire Wednesday because theone pit bull wouldn't release the smaller dog and the other made athreatening move toward the police.

No people were attacked or injured.

Town officials are investigating to determine whether to bringcharges against the owner of the pit bulls.
