Police seek escaped exotic animals in Ohio

ZANESVILLE, Ohio - (AP) - Schools are closed in Zanesville, Ohio,and motorists are being warned to stay in their vehicles.

Officers with assault rifles are continuing the search forbears, big cats and other beasts that escaped from a wild-animalpreserve. The owner of the preserve was found dead, and cages thathoused dozens of dangerous animals were left open.

A sheriff tells NBC's "Today" show that it's possible theowner left the cages open. Authorities believe he may have thentaken his own life.

Police have killed most of the escaped animals. The sheriff sayshe believes up to 35 of the 48 loose bears, big cats and otherbeasts have been accounted for.
