TOMS RIVER - Police are warning shoppers, especially senior citizens, about thieves looking to take advantage of the season of giving.

Toms River police say they are on the hunt for a woman specifically targeting seniors. Officials say the woman pretended to be a helpful citizen, approaching seniors putting groceries in their trunks and asking for their shopping carts before running off with their purses.

Two incidents occurred this past weekend, one outside of a Pathmark and another in a nearby shopping center.

Toms River?s police chief says the suspect is around 50 years old.
