Police search for Kearny man who jumped into Passaic River

KEARNY - Dive teams are searching for a man who police say jumped into the Passaic River early this morning while possibly drunk.

Officials say they observed George Pena, 21, of Kearny, running on Passaic Avenue around 12:30 a.m. They say they were just trying to get him onto the sidewalk, but he fled toward the river and jumped in, never to be seen again.

Officials say the dive teams are having trouble searching because of the murky waters and must search solely by touch.
