ALPINE - First responders were able to rescue 35 people from a replica 18th century sloop that became distressed in the Hudson River.

Marine units from the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police and authorities from Westchester County responded to the ship, which was having issues in the Hudson River near Alpine.

Police say that there were 35 adults and children on board the sloop Clearwater.

According to the Facebook page for the ship, the Clearwater experienced engine failure while heading back to the dock in Yonkers. The onboard education team was able to keep the children calm by playing games and singing songs, according to the Facebook post.

No one was hurt and everyone was safely brought back to the dock.

According to a website for the Clearwater, the boat is a “replica of the cargo sloops that traveled the Hudson River in the 18th and 19th centuries.” Groups can charter the boat for educational tours.
