Police: Recent rape resembles earlier attack in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY - Police say that the attack and brutal rape of a woman in Jersey City on Sunday bears striking similarities to a rape that took place in the same area just two months ago.

Authorities say they believe the same suspect may have struck twice and are urging women in Jersey City's McGinley Square neighborhood to watch their backs. They say a 25-year-old woman was raped and beaten near Bergen and Fairmount avenues at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Authorities say a neighbor scared off the attacker, who ran away past security cameras and without his shirt. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office says the attack follows the rape and beating of a 34-year-old woman on March 23. Both women described their attacker as a physically fit black man, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and around 30 years old.
