Police officer killed in Teaneck crash

TEANECK - The Teaneck police officer who was killed in a single-car crash on Teaneck Road early this morning has been identified as John Abraham, a 17-year veteran of the force, according to police.

Authorities say the 37-year-old officer leaves behind a wife and son.

Police say the officer was on duty at the time of the crash. They say he struck a utility pole on Teaneck Road, near the police department's headquarters, at around 1:50 a.m. He was taken to Holy Name Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The road was shut down for several hours while authorities conducted an investigation. The cause of the crash is not yet known.

Earlier in the evening during his double shift, Officer Abraham saved a man who was choking at the Etc Steakhouse.
