NEWARK - Officials say an off-duty police officer shot and killed an armed suspect in Newark today.

Police are investigating the shooting as a possible robbery-in-progress at the Twin City Supermarket, located in the 600 block of Broadway in the city's North Ward.

There is no word yet on whether the off-duty officer was a customer at the store or if he saw the man outside.

The suspect was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The police officer was not harmed.
