HAMILTON - Officials say an off-duty corrections officer fatally shot an armed man in Hamilton early Saturday morning.

A neighbor who witnessed the incident told investigators that Dominic Neal was walking up to the off-duty officer’s home on Vicky Court while he was outside smoking.

The witness says Neal then pulled out a gun and the resident told him not to fire. Then, apparently out of self-defense, the homeowner fired three times, striking Neal once.

The resident's girlfriend, who was inside the home during the shooting, has a domestic violence restraining order against Neal.

Neal was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed.
