ROSELLE PARK - The mother of a 2-year-old found alone in a smoke-filled apartment has been arrested and charged with child endangerment.
The girl was found at around 10 a.m. in an apartment at the Woodside Gardens complex in Roselle Park.
A social worker making a routine visit called police when she smelled smoke coming from inside the unit.

The superintendent went into the apartment and found an iron smoldering on clothing, and clothes piled on top of a lit stove. The child was unharmed but alone. Police are investigating why she was left alone.
The child's mother, identified as Murlande Colin, was taken into custody at a coffee shop in Cranford around 1:30 p.m. She is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The girl is being treated at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
