PERTH AMBOY - Search and rescue boats blanketed the shoreline in Perth Amboy Sunday evening after a man reported seeing a boy go underwater.

Police say a man on the beach reported seeing a boy swimming alone about 30 feet offshore go underwater while swimming in Raritan Bay.

Cpt. Larry Cattano, of the Perth Amboy Police Department, said the boy was described as thin, between 8 and 10 years old and of Hispanic descent.

Police say that so far no family members or parents have come forward to report a missing child.

When it became too dark to see, police called off the search and reported that no one had been found.

Perth Amboy police say they were still trying verify more information about the missing boy.

They said they take every call as legitimate and will continue their search until proven otherwise.
