BARNEGAT - Authorities have arrested the driver who they say fatally struck a 61-year-old woman in Ocean County and fled the scene.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. Monday as Marie Thorne was walking along Ridgeway Street in the area of Bayview Boulevard in Barnegat. The township woman was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say they received a tip about a vehicle matching the description on Route 9 in the township on Monday afternoon. Officers flooded the area and found a tan Chevrolet Silverado with front passenger side damage in a driveway on Center Street.

After an investigation, Cassie Hansen, 27, of Barnegat, was arrested and charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in death.

She’s being held in the Ocean County Jail on a $150,000 bond with no 10 percent option.
