Police looking for man who allegedly injured officer with car

ROCHELLE PARK - Police in Rochelle Park are looking for a man who allegedly plowed his car into an officer and then sped away.

First-year officer Christopher Rios went to Lawrence Nelson's Madison Avenue home at around 3 p.m. Rios was there to investigate a harassment complaint.

Police say that Rios spoke to Nelson as he sat in his car. Nelson then allegedly put the car in reverse. Rios' hand got caught on the mirror, and he was hit and forced onto the hood of the car. That's when police say Nelson quickly shifted into drive, throwing Rios onto the street.

Rios was taken to the hospital with a knee injury. He's expected to fully recover.

Police are still looking for Nelson. He was driving a Black Toyota Avalon with New Jersey license plate Z82-AFK.
