PATERSON - A Paterson family is demanding answers tonight after police shot and killed a relative who had barricaded himself in a bedroom with a hammer earlier Saturday.

The victim's relatives say they called police to help control him. Salvador Rosario's relatives say he was upset after watching a police raid on a house across the street Friday night. Rosario, who suffers from epilepsy, took a hammer and locked himself in a bedroom.

The 39-year-old's niece told News 12 New Jersey that after the police broke down the door, she saw her uncle drop the hammer and grab a mirror. That's when two shots rang out.

The prosecutor's office wouldn't comment but said that the shooting will be reviewed by their office.
