EDGEWATER - Four police departments issued more than 100 summonses in Bergen County last night following years of complaints surrounding a weekly gathering of bikers and hot rod owners.
Hundreds of bikers and owners of souped-up cars come to Edewater Commons on Thursday nights to show off and admire each other's rides.
Police say the gatherings have gotten out of control. Merchants agree, complaining the weekly crowds of bikers and car enthusiasts scare their regular customers away.
Bikers say the real reason is because of the vicious assault on an SUV driver in New York which has already resulted in the arrest of a New Jersey man. The Edgewater police chief says they've attempted crackdowns before, but the attack on the SUV driver was a game-changer.
