NEWARK - Authorities in Newark are investigating a fatal shooting early this morning in the city's South Ward.

The shooting occurred near the corner of East Runyon Street & Sherman Avenue around 6 a.m., according to Newark police. The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered a single gunshot wound to his head. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says the killing was the city's third homicide overnight.
