NEW BRUNSWICK - Law enforcement officials in New Brunswick have released the name of the man they suspect in an attempted rape near the Rutgers campus last week.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says that Michael Knight attacked a woman near College Avenue on May 4.
Knight, 37, is accused of dragging a Rutgers student into a secluded area and severely beating her. He allegedly tried to sexually assault her, but a group of good Samaritans stepped in and the suspect ran off.
As he fled, he reportedly said that he had a gun and threatened to shoot one of the men who attempted to chase him down.
The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to be treated for her injuries. She has since been released.
Knight is described as a black man who stands at 6 feet 2 inches tall with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He weights between 220-250 pounds. He has several tattoos, including one on the left side of his neck.
Anyone who has information about Knight’s whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Carlos Rodriguez of the Rutgers University Police Department at 848-932-8025, or Detective George Stilwell of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-8675.
