Police ID man killed in Franklin police-involved shooting

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office has identified the man that was killed in last night?s police-involved shooting in Franklin Township.

Acting Somerset County Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco, Jr. said Arthur McDougald, 60, was shot and killed in front of his Franklin Boulevard home after he pulled a gun on officers attempting to arrest him on a domestic violence charge.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the officer who shot McDougald but have said the officer has been placed on administrative leave.

The prosecutor?s office says the investigation is continuing but it does look like the shooting was a justifiable use of deadly force.
