Police: Dead chicken could be related to Santeria ritual

TEWKSBURY - Police in Tewksbury say they believe someone may have performed a Santeria ritual in town.

Authorities were called to the intersection of Potterstown and Rockaway roads on Feb. 6 for a report of a box in the road.

Authorities say a police officer discovered a brown cardboard box with a dead chicken, various fruits, a potato, popcorn, candles and quarters near the intersection. Investigators say the items are consistent with Santeria rituals. It is suspected that the ritual may have been performed overnight since the box was discovered in the early morning hours.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tewksbury police.
