EDISON - A South Brunswick man is in jail after he allegedly led police on a high speed chase through a half a dozen towns in central New Jersey.

Police tried to pull over Douglas Egnotyak Sunday night after they say he nearly crashed into another driver while traveling on Route 1 in South Brunswick. However, he refused to pull over.

Egnotyak allegedly continued on with police in pursuit. The erratic driving was caught on a police cruiser dash cam. The chase was called off after officers felt it was getting too dangerous.

"The supervisor and the officer decided it was better to just let the vehicle go,” says South Brunswick Police Lt. James Ryan. “Minutes later…that van comes back into South Brunswick again, headed in the opposite direction with Edison police…trying to stop it."

Approximately 30 minutes after the case began, Egnotyak pulled over and stopped his van. He reportedly told officers he took off because he had outstanding warrants for failing to appear on careless driving charges and DUI and did not want to go to jail.

Egnotyak is not facing additional charges in South Brunswick and Edison for the alleged crimes.
