ALPINE - Authorities say a police chase in which an officer fired a shot ended with three people under arrest.

Palisades Interstate Parkway police say the chase started around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday in Passaic and went briefly into Manhattan before it ended in the northern New Jersey town of Alpine.

The car had been reported stolen in Passaic.

Police say the driver, 21-year-old Durell Jackson, of Passaic, eventually jumped out of the moving car and was run over by a rear wheel. But he rolled under a guardrail and ran off.

An officer chasing after Jackson fired a shot when he thought he saw Jackson turn toward him with a black shiny object in his hand. But the bullet didn't hit Jackson.

Jackson faces numerous charges and it's not known if he's retained a lawyer.

Two women in the vehicle were also arrested.
