NEWARK - Police are investigating after a chase on the Garden State Parkway resulted in a fiery crash that killed two people.

Officials say they were pursuing a car when it got off the parkway at exit 144. At that point, police followed the car for a short distance before calling off the chase.

That is when the car struck a number of other vehicles, flipped over and caught fire, killing the driver and his passenger, according to police.

Investigators identified the driver of the car as 24-year-old Safir Abdul Rahma, of East Orange. They declined to identify the passenger.
