Police can't corroborate caretaker attack

MAHWAH - Authorities say they can't corroborate a caretaker's story that he was assaulted in his cabin at a Mahwah campground.

Police say the man's story "has changed a few times" since he reported last night that he was attacked by two men who were riding an all-terrain vehicle.

The caretaker, whose name has not been released, was treated at a hospital for a laceration on his head.

Police say the Camp Yaw Paw caretaker told them he was confronted by two men who were riding an all-terrain vehicle around 9 p.m. yesterday. He claimed one of the men struck him and he fired four shots as they fled.

No hospitals reported any shooting victims.

AP wire stories contributed to this report.
